Are you looking for the perfect place to stay in Paleochora? Whether you’re dreaming of a quiet studio near the beach, a traditional guesthouse in the old town, or a modern apartment with sea views – Paleochora offers a surprisingly wide range of accommodation to suit almost every travel style and budget. You’ll find hardly any large hotel complexes here. In Paleochora, the original and authentic spirit of Crete lives on to this day. Hardly any other place in the south of the island feels so relaxed, genuine and, at the same time, diverse. Many of the local accommodation options are family-run and reflect the region’s warm atmosphere. I myself lived in Paleochora for a long time and got to know and try out a wide variety of places to stay. In this article, I’ll show you the best of them.
🏖️ **For the room with the sound of the sea**
🌿 **For lovers of the old town's narrow streets**
🏡 **For those seeking peace and quiet, just outside the city**
🌅 **For those seeking greater comfort**

#1: Klima Rooms

A place with real character. Family-run, simple and affordable rooms in a great location, all with balconies, some with direct sea views. You can hear the sound of the waves. Situated in the very quiet “Gavdos district”, which is largely untouched by tourism. Perfect if you’re looking for an affordable holiday in a relaxed and authentic setting. All rooms have a fridge with a kettle and air conditioning. Cars can be parked nearby and it’s just a few minutes’ walk to the old town. Rooms are also available to rent throughout the winter – even stays of several months are possible at very good prices!

#2: On the Rocks

An iconic little resort with perhaps the best sea view in the area. From the balcony, you can marvel at breathtaking sunrises over the white mountains. If you visit in the off-season, you can even see the sun rising directly from the sea in the morning. The small hotel was built on sea cliffs and is situated right by the water. From there, you have a fantastic view over parts of the village, the white mountains and as far as the island of Gavdos on the horizon. At night, you can hear the sound of the sea. Like Klima Rooms, the complex is located in the Gavdos district. All rooms have a balcony with a sea view. There is a choice of 14 standard double rooms with air conditioning but no kitchen, or several suites and penthouse suites with excellent facilities. The complex has a small restaurant for breakfast. The rooms are cleaned daily.

#3: Libyan Sunrise

A very welcoming establishment run by a local. Spacious and modern rooms, situated right on the seafront promenade. Rooms with mountain or sea views are available. The balcony offers a fantastic view of the white mountains, the village and the endless Libyan Sea. In the evening, sitting on the balcony, you can watch the hustle and bustle on the promenade – at night, you can listen to the waves. Very well-equipped kitchen with cooking facilities. And the name wasn’t chosen by chance: from the balcony with sea views, you can marvel at the perfect sunrise. The nearest beach is just a few steps away. Also available to book in winter at significantly reduced rates.

#4: Blue Horizon

A very welcoming, well-maintained and modern little resort with a perfect view of the sea. This family-run hotel offers well-equipped rooms with balconies. In the evening, you can watch the sun sink into the sea. A highlight is the hotel’s own rooftop terrace (“Soul Bar”), which invites you to enjoy romantic moments and delicious drinks in a relaxed atmosphere. From there, you get a perfect view across the entire “Sandy Beach” and the open sea. A high-quality breakfast is served daily, partly using produce from the hotel’s own garden. The family produces its own olive oil every year. The accommodation also offers tours.

#5: Anonymous Homestay

This is the budget option on this list (single rooms starting at just 25 euros), but that isn’t the main reason I’m including this accommodation here. At Anonymous Homestay, you get the feeling of immersing yourself in local life – right at the heart of this special town. The property is set in a beautiful garden and offers several small rooms. In the evenings, you can sit in the garden by your stone cottage and enjoy a chat with other guests. If you’re looking for luxury, this isn’t the place for you. But the basics are covered: air conditioning and a small kitchen are provided. If you want to experience a place with a long history, authenticity, interesting guests and genuine Greek hospitality spanning several generations of a family, you should give this place a try. And if you’re lucky, the house cat might even sneak into your room. Yes, the accommodation is showing its age. Nevertheless, I associate this place with so many positive and special experiences that I’d like to include it in this list.

#6: Art Apartment

A very stylishly furnished property with very spacious rooms that make you feel as though you’ve moved into a new flat. The rooms offer everything you need for a comfortable holiday: a large, cosy bed, air conditioning, a fully equipped kitchen, seating, a balcony and even a complimentary bottle of wine on arrival. The accommodation is situated on a very quiet side street right in the heart of the town. The pace of life here is relaxed. It’s just a few minutes’ walk to Sandy Beach.

#7 Aristea Apartment

Anyone who values a good view and a stunning panorama from the balcony will find this accommodation unmissable. The small complex, comprising a total of four very well-appointed and modern apartments, is situated in the new part of Paleochora, about a 30-minute walk from the village centre, on a hill in a prime location. It is no exaggeration to say that the view from the balcony is sensational. You can look out over the entire village, enjoy sunrises and sunsets, see the mountains and even the small island of Gavdos on the horizon. The rooms are very spacious and the kitchen is large and ultra-modern. Here, you can experience the southern Greek island dream. The only drawback: there are no tavernas or shops in the immediate vicinity. To reach the town centre, you’ll need to take a longer walk or drive.

#8 Casa Horizon

Casa Horizon is situated in what I consider to be the most beautiful part of Paleochora. Anyone holidaying in Paleochora should take a stroll along the road towards the east in the early evening, when the sun is low or during the blue hour. Olive trees, clucking chickens and the sound of the sea in the background. Pure nature! And right in the middle of it all is the newly built holiday home, Casa Horizon. A very modern and lovingly furnished house with 3 bedrooms, a beautiful and well-maintained garden with seating and barbecue facilities. The roof terrace offers a magnificent view. The beach is just a few minutes away. It’s about a 15-minute walk to the old town. For families or larger groups, it’s the perfect place to stay or to explore South West Crete.

#9 Camping Paleochora

Camping Paleochora is a real institution and cannot be compared to any other place in Paleochora (or indeed on Crete). This place thrives on its energy and the people who visit it (some of whom have been coming for decades). Globetrotters, Crete enthusiasts, free spirits. At this lovely campsite, you’ll mainly meet people who have fascinating stories to tell. It gave me the chance to discover a whole new side to Crete. The campsite is open all year round. Check-in is very straightforward. You bring your tent, register briefly, find a spot and stay as long as you like. If you’re arriving by vehicle, you should book in advance. The many olive trees provide plenty of shade. Directly opposite lies what I consider to be one of the most beautiful beaches in Crete. Not ideal for swimming, but the scenery is stunning. The campsite is ideal for backpackers. If you’re arriving with a caravan, you’ll find everything you need for your motorhome at the campsite. You can enjoy good food right on the site, especially during the season. The owners have lived in the village for generations and run the campsite with love and dedication. Throughout the year, the tavern hosts the occasional festival, bringing together many of the families living in Paleochora.

#10 Olive Tree Cottages

Nestled amongst lush greenery and colourful flowers, this is the perfect spot for those seeking peace and quiet. Set in an idyllic location, tucked away deep within an olive grove, far removed from civilisation. Paleochora is about a 20-minute walk away. The complex is surrounded entirely by nature. Eight lovingly furnished cottages blend seamlessly into the natural landscape. All cottages have two floors with air conditioning, a large living room, a fully equipped kitchen and their own small garden. If you want to get away from it all on holiday – this is the ideal place for it!

#11 Aris Boutique Hotel

Anyone strolling through the village and passing the Aris Hotel will notice that this establishment really stands out. The hotel takes a nature-oriented approach, combining art, nature, body and mind. Hardly any other accommodation in the village shows such attention to detail. A wine corner, massage service, yoga classes, a small library and a garden with plenty of lovely secluded spots to relax in all highlight the special character of this place. The service is extremely attentive and professional. A fresh and healthy breakfast made with local produce is served daily. Add to that the stylishly and artistically furnished rooms, which invite you to stay a little longer – all with a balcony or terrace. And the location in the Gavdos district, close to the water, is hard to beat. The value for money here is spot on and the overall package is hard to beat!

#12 Libyan Princess

Built in 2010, this hotel in the heart of Paleochora offers a haven of relaxation, wellness and comfort. The rooms are furnished in a modern, minimalist style. All rooms have a balcony. Rooms adapted for guests with mobility issues are also available. In the hotel’s courtyard, a lovely pool with a minibar invites you to linger. The fitness studio with sauna (!) sets this establishment apart in the town! Massage and wellness packages are also available. A high-quality Cretan breakfast is served every morning.
