#2: Gavdos climate & climate chart
Gavdos is located south of Crete and is the southernmost inhabited point in Europe. The climate is typically Mediterranean: dry, hot summers and mild winters. The sun intensity is considered the highest in Europe. The average annual temperature is around 21 degrees Celsius (Germany approx. 9 degrees). Almost 280 rain-free days guarantee sunshine. Precipitation throughout the year totals just under 150 mm (Germany: approx. 800 mm). Even though the winters on Gavdos cannot be compared to those in Central Europe, the weather does change significantly throughout the year.

#3: The weather on Gavdos troughout the year
Spring (March to May)
In spring, temperatures gradually rise. From an average of 16–17 °C in March, average temperatures increase to around 21–22 °C by May. By the end of May, daytime temperatures often exceed 25 degrees. With a little luck, the 30-degree mark may already be reached in May. Rainfall usually decreases significantly, with only occasional short showers. Wind speeds slowly decrease and the days become noticeably longer. The sea is still cool from winter and settles at around 18 degrees.
Summer (June to August)
Summer on Gavdos is hot, sunny, and dry. Average daily highs are around 30-33°C, with peaks of up to 37°C not uncommon. There is practically no rainfall during these months – summer often remains completely rain-free. Moderate to strong winds from the west-northwest are typical, regularly sweeping across the island and keeping temperatures bearable. The sea reaches its warmest temperatures in midsummer, at 25–27 °C.

Autumn (September to November)
Autumn brings slowly falling temperatures and the first rains. However, September can still be described as a full summer month, with temperatures often reaching 30 degrees Celsius. It is not until October that a slight cooling gradually sets in. Daytime temperatures hover around 25 degrees Celsius. In November, the southern Greek winter gradually sets in, with temperatures around 19 °C. However, there can still be warmer days. September is usually stable and warm, while November marks the beginning of the rainy season. Wind and weather change more quickly, and storms increase significantly towards the end of the year. Until the end of October, the sea is still noticeably warm from the summer. You can swim in temperatures around 23 degrees until October. Even in November, the water temperature does not fall below 20 degrees.
Winter (December to February)
The winter months on Gavdos are mild, but often windy and rainy—at least by southern Greek island standards. Temperatures range between 14 and 17 °C, rarely falling below 10 °C at night. December and January see the most rainfall of the year, often in the form of short, intense showers. Strong north and northeast winds with gusts of over 70 km/h are typical during this period, but longer periods of good weather are also common.
